
Anton Bruckner (full name Joseph Anton Bruckner) was born on September 4, 1824 in Ansfelden,
Austria. He was a famous Austrian composer.
Biography and Career :
He was the son of a schoolmaster and organist, who would later be his teacher. He studied at the Augustinian monastery in St. Florian and became an organist there in 1851.
Until the age of 40 he continued his studies under Simon Sechter and Otto Kitzler, the last one introduced him to the music of
Richard Wagner, which Anton Bruckner studied extensively from 1863.
Anton Bruckner's genius appeared late almost when he was 40 and the fame appeared a lot after this, at the age o
f 60. In 1861 he had already met
Liszt.
Anton Bruckner wrote his first mature work, the Mass in D Minor after he finished his studies, and in 1868 he got a job as a teacher of music theory at the
Vienna Conservatory.
In 1875 he went to the University of Vienna as a teacher of music theory again.
During his lifetime Anton Bruckner wrote symphonies, masses, motets, and other sacred choral works.
He traveled to France in 1869, England in 1871 and gave six recitals on a new Henry Willis organ at Royal Albert Hall in London and five more at the Crystal Palace. He had a big success.
Anton Bruckner dedicated Wagner "Symphony No 3" and the symphonies seven, eight and nine contained parts for tuba, an instrument invented by Wagner.
He passed away on October 11, 1896 in Vienna and his Ninth Symphony premiere was in the same city on February 11, 1903.
