Ant

Q:   Ask a Question about Ant
AntAnt was born on August 22, 1967 in Boston, Massachussetts, USA. He is an actor, host, writer, producer and comedian. In July 1993, he had his name changed legally to ANT from Anthony Steven Kalloniatis and prefers ANT to be spelled in all caps.

Biography and Career :

Born into Greek imigrant parents (Lee and Maria - whom he talks about frequently in his stand-up routines), Ant was raised Greek Orthodox but ventured away from strict Orthodoxy and studied many other religions including Taoism, Hinduism and Scientology (per his official Facebook and Myspace pages). He attended Londonderry High School and the Universtiy of New Hampshire where he was affectionately known as the class clown. Inebriated at a bar one night in 1985, he got up on stage at a local talent show and performed a crude stand-up routine for the first time. He lost. But a seed was planted and he knew this was his calling. College didn't seem to suit his growing facination with comedy, and in 1986 he dropped out after only one semester. In 1993 he moved to Los Angeles.

In 1994 he starred in a Fox Television pilot called, "Howe High." From there he went on to a co-starring role on the WB series, "Unhappily Ever After," from the creator of "Married with Children," Ron Leavitt.

Throughout his career, he has appeared on many series and specials. Including the remake of To Tell The Truth, Kathy Griffin: My life on the D list, The Jamie Foxx Show, For your love, Son of a beach, Gene Simmons: Family Jewels, Sweet Valley High, Queer as Folk, Weekends at the DL, Nightstand, The Dennis Miller Show, But Can They Sing, Steve Harvey's Big Time, The Tyra Banks show and many others.

His Big opportunity came with NBC's Last Comic Standing. A competition show for comedians to find the funniest person in America. Over 10,000 comedians tried out. ANT advanced all the way to the semi-finals in Las Vegas but did not make it into the house. The second season, he made it into the house but did not win. He was the 6th runner up. Then NBC ordered a rushed third season of the show, and the format was changed. Season one would do battle against season two to see which season were the funniest comedians. It was called Last Comic Standing: The Battle of the Best. ANT's season (2) easily bested seaon one and they went on to win the competition.

He used that forward momentum parylaying it into a hosting job on the VH1 series, Celebrity Fit Club. He still remains the shows host; which is entering and unprecentented 7th season (no other VH1 series has gone on to 7 seasons). That year he also released a DVD of a live concernt performance entitled, "ANT: America's Ready".

In 1997, ANT moved out of his comfort zone, becoming a celebrity participant on the VH1 series, CelebraCadabra (magic with the stars). There he revealed a deep rooted fear of clowns. He was eliminated 2nd when dressed as a grocery store candy aisle, he was mauled by a rambunctious group of 2nd graders all vying for something sweet.

Over his career, ANT has appeared numerous times on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Howard Stern Radio show, and garnered his own tv series on The Logo Channel that bears his name: The U.S of ANT.

In movies, he has been in Twin Falls, Idaho, Circuit, Angels Baby!, Another Gay Movie, National Lampoon's Totally Baked, The Underground Comedy Movie (with Michael Clarke Duncan), and Sister Mary.

He has 3 siblings, Andrea, Althea and Frank. In January of 2007 he signed on the be a Spokespman for the diet company Nutrisystem after losing 43 pounds on thier program. He is a funny man, talented and intelligent and has millions of fans worldwide. His career is going great and we are sure it will continue thanks to his humor and compassion for his fans.
