Ann Margret was born in Stockholm. She is the daughter of Anna and Gustav Olsson. She shifted with her parents to Valsji¶byn, Ji¤mtlands li¤n when she was young. When her father was young he worked in the United States and then shifted back to the United States in 1942 living back his wife and daughter. In the United States he worked with the Johnson Electrical Company.
In 1946 she and her mother moved to the United States. The day she landed in United States her father took her to The Radio City Music Hall. She learnt dance from the Marjorie Young School of Dance. Her mother worked as a funeral parlor receptionist after her father was injured severely dur
ing his work. She was seen on the Morris B. Sachs Amateur Hour, Don McNeill's Breakfast Club and Ted Mack's Amateur Hour when she was a teenager.
When she was in high school she took part in theatre plays. She went to Northwestern University, but did not complete her graduation. She was also the member of the organization Kappa Alpha Theta.
She started recording for RCA in 1961. "Lost Love" from her debut album And Here She Is: Ann-Margret was her first recording with RCA. When she was 19 years old she auditioned at 20th Century Fox and signed a 7 year contract with them in 1961. Her debut movie was Pocketful of Miracles, along with Bette Davis. This movie was a remake of the movie Lady for a Day in 1933 and the both versions were directed by Frank Capra.
