Anita Colby (birth name Anita Counihan) was born on August 5, 1914 in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. She was a model and actress.

Biography and Career :

Her father was Bud Counihan, cartoonist and a legendary figure in New York in the artists and newsmen world. As a fashion model she was the best paid and appeared in many commercials especially for cigarettes. In 1935 she moved to Hollywood, but never had the success she had as a model. Coming back to New York she was ad salesman for Harper's Bazaar and Feminine Director of the Selznick Studios.

She was married to Palen Flagler between 1970 and 1980 when he died. In 1991 she died of lung disease at the age of 77.

Trivia :

- She was the first model to receive $100 an hour.
- She refused a marriage propo sals from Clark Gable and James Stewart.
- She was hired by David O. Selznick in the 1940s to school his contract actresses in matters of beauty, poise and publicity. She was especially influencial in grooming Jennifer Jones for stardom.
- Nickname: "The Face".
