Andrea Thompson was born in Dayton, Ohio, USA. She was brought in a strict catholic family. She shifted with her family to Australia when she was 6 years old. When she was 16 years she completed her graduation from high school. After she completed her graduation she traveled for nearly 5 years before she settled in New York City. After she shifted to New York City she was noticed by Irene Maries and agent. She was also a model. After working as a model she studied acting at the Strasberg Studio and at the Herbert Berghof Studio under Uta Hagen.
After completing her graduation she started her career as a voiceover artist. Her debut role was in the movie Wall
Street in 1987. She also acted the soap opera Falcon Crest in 1989. She was casted as the scheming Genele Ericson during the show's final season. She has also acted in the science fiction television series Babylon 5 as telepath Talia Winters in 1993.
She then joined the series JAG and played the role of Commander Alison Krennick, as the assistant to the head of the US Navy's Judge Advocate General's Corps. She then played the role of Detective Jill Kirkendall on the crime series NYPD Blue. In 2000 she left the show to pursue her career in journalism.
She started working with CBS partner KRQE in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a general assignment correspondent. In 2001 she joined CNN Headlines News as an evening anchor. Her nude pictures and videoclips were circulated on the internet which caused a lot of mortification for CNN.
