Anderson Silva (full name Anderson da Silva) was born on April 14, 1975, in Curitiba, Brazil. He took tae kwon do lessons when he was 14 years old. Before landing a career in fighting, Anderson Silva worked in a number of jobs.
His career in the field of fighting set of in the Mecca circuit of Brazil in 2000. In his debut match, Anderson was defeated by Luiz Azeredo. That didn't stop him as he emerged victorious from the next two fights. In 2001, he shifted to Japan and participated in the Shooto circuit. During this time, he participated in the Mecca circuit as well. Half of 2001 had passed and Anderson Silva kept on winning all the matches he played. He also got the middleweight trophy of the Shoot circuit by defeating
the undefeated Yahato Sakurai.
Thereafter, Anderson Silva played in a number of international events and changed from one team to another. Among the teams he played during this time included Chute Boxe Academy, Muay Thai Dream Team and Black House. Anderson still kept on winning and soon became a big name on the Mecca circuit and the PRIDE circuit of Japan. Another team change came for Silva and he became a member of Cage Rage. With them, he defeated Lee Murray and conquered the middleweight trophy.
In 2006, Anderson Silva entered the UFC.
He won the middleweight title of the UFC by defeating Rich Franklin. Silva defended his title successfully for the rest of 2006. He had won over 20 matches and lost fewer than 5 matches. 2008 saw him defeating Dan Henderson. He also entered the light heavyweight category and defeated James Irvin in his debut match. Patrick Cote also faced the wrath of Anderson Silva in October at the UFC90.
