Ana Blandiana Ana Blandiana (real name Otilia Valeria Coman) was born on March 25, 1942 in Timisoara, Romania. She is a famous Romanian poet and a fighter for contemporary civic liberty in Romania.

Biography and Career :

In 1959 she makes her debut in "The tribune" magazine withe the poem "Originality" first signing as Ana Blandiana. As a result of a denunciation sent from Oradea to all the country's publication, in which it is demanded her banning as "doughter of the county's enemy", she loses for many years the right to publish and to join in a faculty.

About this period the writes after- " I was known as a banned poet before I got to be known as a poet".

In 1960 she marries Romulus Rusan.

After a 4 years banning, she makes again her debut in "The contemporan" magazine.

1963- 1967 - she studies and finishes The Philology Faculty in Cluj.

In 1967 she moves to Bucharest where she starts working as an editor at " Students life " magazine and from 1968 till 1975 also as an editor at "Amphytheatre" magazine. In 1969 she receives the poetry award from The Writers Union and she makes 2 poetry films for the television along with Florian Pitis, Mariana Mihut and Irina Petrescu.

In 1975 she is obligated to quit workin in the magazine and for 2 years she works as a librarian at The Plastic Atr Library.

In 1982 she receives The Gottfried von Herder international award in Viena and the prose award from the Writers Association in Bucharest.

In December 1989 it is anounced on television, without her beeing asked, that she is a member of The Front's Council on National Salvation.In January 1990 she quits F.C.N.S.

In 1997 she receives The Mihai Eminescu National Poetry Award and she is allected member of Mallarme Poetry Academy in Paris.

In 2001 she is named founding member og The Poetry World Academy in Verona under the aegis of UNESCO.

-1983-"Sand hour";
-1985-"Don't be afraid of me";
-1991-"100 poems";
-2003-"Corridors of mirrors".
