Amy Locane was born and brought up in Trenton, New Jersey. She was brought up by her mother. She was noticed by a local photographer when she was 10 years old and sent her pictures to an agent in New York. She traveled to New York with her mother for giving her auditions for commercials and she used to do her home work in the train. She had appeared in nearly 50 commercials by the time she was 12 years old. Her debut role on television was in the series Spencer on NBC in 1984. She played the role of Chad Lowe's younger sister.
