Ami James was born on Israel. When he was 12 years old he went to Miami, but returned to Israel when he was a teenager. After going back to Israel he completed his military service in the Israel Defense Force as a sniper. He got his first tattoo done when he was 15 years old because of which he was determined on becoming a tattoo artist. He was a learner with a tattoo artist Lou at the store Tattoo by Lou in 1992. He is the co-owner of the tattoo parlor Love Hate Tattoos at the Miami Beach, Florida. He is also the co-owner of the clothing company DeVille with Nunez and Jesse Fleet. The Motorola's RAZR V3 mobile phones designs are designed by Ami James. He has
also invested in a jewelry shop Love Hate Choppers Jewelry with Boston jeweler Larry Weymouth.
