Amelia Vega was born on November 7, 1984, in Santiago, Dominican Republic. She had a doctor as her father and a model as her mother. Her mother had represented Dominican Republic at the Miss World run in 1980. Influenced by her mother, Amelia decided to take up modelling as her career.
In 2003, Amelia entered the Miss Universe pageant as the face of Dominican Republic. She was crowned as the Miss Universe and became the youngest model to win the pageant in nine years. She was also the first Miss Universe from Dominican Republic.
Amelia also showed her social consciousness by taking up a world tour in support of several AIDS and HIV organizations. She also moved to the USA.
Amelia participated in the Pan A
merican Games in 2003 and emerged with an award. She also sang at the Miss Dominican Republic pageant in 2004.
