Biography and Career :
The younger of two daughters, Amanda Peet was raised by her father Charles, a lawyer, and mother Penny, a social worker, before their subsequent divorce in 1990.
Although it was clear from the start that Amanda had the showbiz flair after she jumped on a stage in the middle of a play, she majored in history at Columbia University.
Her feature film debut came in 1995 in the movie Animal Room (1995). For a while after, Amanda continued to find steady work, but also found herself appearing in a depressingly large number of indie films that were never picked up.
Amanda Peet did however, meet her boyfriend Brian Van Holt on
the set of one of those indies; the movie Whipped (2000). But it was her turn as the dippsy hit-woman with the heart of gold in the hit comedy The Whole Nine Yards (2000) opposite Bruce Willis, that took her from supporting role status to leading lady.
In 2005, she starred in the play This Is How It Goes, alongside Jeffrey Wright and Ben Stiller. As of February 2006, Amanda Peet has been appearing in Neil Simon's Broadway production of Barefoot in the Park.
On February 3, 2006, it was announced Peet would be joining the cast of Aaron Sorkin's new show, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, to premiere on NBC in the fall of 2006.
