Alvar Aalto (Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto) was born on February 3rd, 1898 in Finland and died on May 11, 1976, in Helsinki. He was a famous Finnish architect and designer.
One of Finland's first modernists, his architectural style was unique, characterized by asymmetry, curved walls, and contrast of natural materials. Buildings include the Hall of Residence, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts 1947-1949; Technical High School, Otaniemi 1962-1965; Finlandia Hall, Helsinki 1972.
