Alfred Adler saw the "will to power" as more influential in accounting for human behaviour than the sexual drive theory.
Over this theory he parted company with Freud after a ten-year collaboration.
Born in Vienna, he was a general practitioner and nerve specialist there 1897-1927, serving as an army doctor in World War I.
He joined the circle of Freudian doctors in Vienna about 1900. The concepts of inferiority complex and overcompensation originated with Adler, for example in his books Organic Inferiority and Psychic Compensation 1907 and Understanding Human Nature 1927.
