Alexandru Paleologu Alexandru Paleologu was born on March 14, 1919 in Bucharest. He was a writer, diplomat and a Romanian politician.

Biography and Career :

Alexandru Paleologu was born in an old noble family, that has its roots in the Byzantine Impire( he seems to have descended from the last Byzantine emperor). His father was a politician. He graduated from "Spiru Haret" Highschool, and then he studied Law at the University in Bucharest.

Between 1946 and 1948 he works at the Romanian Royal Ministery of Externel Business. In his escape from the Internal Security, he takes a false name and moves to Campulung- Muscel until 1956.

In 1959 he is arrested and convicted to 14 years of prison. In jail he meets some famous people like Constantin Noica and Alexandru Ivasiuc. After being released,i n 1967, he becomes the secretary of "C.I. Nottara" and a member of the Writers Union. Between 1970 and 1976 he is an editor at " Cartea romaneasca" publishing house.

In 1992 he is chosen president of the Council of the Civil Society Foundation.
After the Romanian revolution in 1989, he is named Romanian Ambassador in France, but he is soon quietus because of his pro monarchy beliefs. he continued his political career and during 1996 and 2004 he is a PNL senator.

Soon after 1989 he admitted in a book having cooperated with the Internal Security and he publucly appologised.

In the year 2000 he got the award for excellence in Romania during a ceremony that unfolded at the Romanian Atheneum. The event was also attended by the president.

On September 2, 2005 , at the age of 86 Alexandru Paleologu passed away.
