Biography and Career:
Alex Trebek was born and brought up in Sudbury, Ontario. He is the son of Lucille, a Franco-Ontario and George Edward Trebek, a Ukrainian-Canadian immigrant. He did his schooling at Jesuit school. He completed his graduation in 1958 from Toronto's Malvern Collegiate Institute and then completed degree in philosophy from the University of Ottawa. He was a member of the English Debating Society as he was the student of the University of Ottawa. He was interested in a career in broadcast news and he started his broadcasting career in the CBC as a newscaster and sportscaster. He specialized in national news and covering a wide range of
special events for the CBC's radio and television divisions, including curling and horse racing. Only for six days he went to Colli¨ge Militaire Royal de Saint-Jean, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada.
He started hosting the high school quiz show Reach for the Top in 1966. He also hosted a Canadian show called Jackpot in 1970. He then shifted to United States and worked for NBC as host of a new game show, The Wizard of Odds in 1973. He also hosted the popular Merrill Heatter-Bob Quigley game show, High Rollers. He also hosted short-lived CBS game show, Double Dare. He was also awarded five Outstanding Game Show Host Emmy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also hosts the annual National Geographic Bee in the U.S. and the Great Canadian Geography Challenge in Canada. He also hosted the show Wheel of Fortune with Pat Sajak on April fool's day in 1997.
