Alberto Fujimori (born in 1939) was the President of Peru from July, 1990.
Short Biography:
As leader of the newly formed Cambio 90 (Change 90) he campaigned on a reformist ticket and defeated his more experienced Democratic Front opponent.
With no assembly majority, and faced with increasing opposition to his policies, he imposed military rule early 1992.
In 1993 a plebiscite narrowly approved his proposed constitutional changes, which would encourage free-market thinking and allow him to seek re-election in 1995.
