Akiko Morigami was born on January 12, 1980 in Osaka, Japan. She is a professional tennis player.

Biography and Career :

In 1998 she became a professional tennis player and since then has earned almost one million dollars. Until now (2007) she has won one WTA single title, six ITF single titles, one WTA doubles title and three ITF doubles titles. In 2005 at Cincinnati she played the final against Patty Schnyder, but unfortunately for her she lost. The six ITF single tournaments were won at Warrnambool, Wodonga, Saga, Home Hill, Dothan and Surbiton. Her opponents in the finals were Mireille Dittman, Mareze Joubert, Nana Miyagi, Milagros Sequera and Anna Chakvetadze.

In May 2007 came her first WTA title. She played the tournament at Prague and in the final she faced Marion Ba rtoli. In 2003 and 2007 she participated at Wimbledon and there she reached each time the third round. In 2004 at the US Open she played into the second round and next year at the French Open the third round.

At the Australian Open she played the second round in 2003, 2004 and 2007 and every time stopped there. A great victory for her came in 2006 at Roland Garros where she beat Nadia Petrova, who was World No.3, in the first round. She is a smart and talented player and people from her country have put their hopes in her and the way she is playing.
