He rejected the ornamentation and curved lines of the Viennese Jugendstit Art Nouveau movement.
His most important buildings are private houses on Lake Geneva in 1904 and the Steiner House in Vienna in 1910, but his main importance is as a polemicist; for example the article Ornament and Crime (1908).
