Adam Baldwin was and brought up in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. He did his schooling at New Trier Township High School East in Winnetka, Illinois. He has also worked as a truck driver.

He has started acting in movies from 1980. Right from 1980 he has acted in many movies like My Bodyguard (1980); D.C. Cab (1983); Full Metal Jacket (1987); Independence Day (1996) and Serenity (2005). He has also acted in movies li ke Radio Flyer (1992); From the Earth to the Moon (1998), The X-Files, Smoke Jumpers (1996), The Cape, Men in Black: The Series, Stargate SG-1, Angel, The Inside, NCIS and the remake of "The Poseidon Adventure". He has also acted in the ABC series Day Break in 2006. He has also portrayed the character of Ricky Linderman in the movie Drillbit Taylor in 2008. He won the SyFy Genre Award for Best Supporting Actor / Television for his role as Jayne Cobb in the TV series Firefly in 2006.
