Aaron Eckhart was born in California. He is the son of Mary Eckhart a poet and children's author and James C. Eckhart c computer executive. He is their youngest son among the three. He was raised as a Mormon in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1981 he shifted with his family to England. In England they lived in Walton-on-Thomas, Surrey. He went to the American Community School which now known as ACS International Schools. He then shifted to Sydney in 1985 and enrolled at the American International School of Sydney.
He acted in the movie Godly Sorrow when he was in Brigham Young. On seeing his performance in the movie director cum writer Neil LaBute gave him
an opportunity to act in his original LaBute plays. After he completed his graduation at BYU he shifted to New York where he took up jobs like bartending, bus driving and construction work.
In 1997 he once again contacted Neil LaBute to give him an opportunity to act in the movie "In the Company of Men" which is version of his play. In 1998 he acted in another movie of Neil LaBute's "Your Friends & Neighbors". In 1999 he acted in the movie "Molly" in the lead role. In this movie he played the role of brother of an autistic woman. He also acted in the movie "Any given Sunday" an Oliver Stone's movie. In this movie he played the role of a football coach. The other movies in which he has acted are: Slaughter of the innocents (1997); Thursday (1998); Erin Brockovich (2000); The Pledge (2001); Possession (2002) and many more.
