A.J. Cook born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada is the daughter of Mike, a teacher and Sandra who works for a psychiatrist. She grew up in Whitby. She has been a dancer from the age of four. She has even taken jazz, tap and ballet classes. Till the age of seventeen she has been dancing after which she decided to take up acting as her career.

In 1997 she was seen in the McDonald's commercial which was her first job. After her commercial in 1997 she started acting in series in guest roles. Her first guest role was in the TV series Goosebumps and small roles in the movi es "In His Father's Shoes" and "Elvis Meets Nixon". Her first movie was "The Virgin Suicides" in 1999 in which she played the role of one of the five appealing suicidal sisters. In the same year she did the main role in the television series "High Ground" in which is played the role of Shelby Merrick.

In 2007 she acted in the television movie "The Spiral Staircase" and she has done many other main roles in several movies like "Out Cold", "Ripper, I'm Reed Fish" and "Final Destination 2". She has also acted in the CBS drama "Criminal Minds" as J.J. Jareau.

The other movies in which she has acted are Laserhawk (1997); Teen Sorcery (1999); Blue Moon (1999); Wishmaster 3: Beyond Gates of Hell (2001); Blood Suckers (2005); Night Skies (2007); Misconceptions (2009); Mother's Day (2010) and she has acted in many television series.
