Adopted name of John Casey (1884-1964) early plays are tragicomedies, blending realism with symbolism and poetic with vernacular speech: The Shadow of a Gunman in 1922, Juno and the Paycock in 1925, and The Plough and the Stars in 1926. Short Biography:
Later plays include Red Roses for Me in 1946 and The Drums of Father Ned in 1960.
He also wrote the antiwar drama The Silver Tassie in 1929, The Star Turns Red in 1940, Oak Leaves and Lavender in 1947, and a six-volume autobiography.
