Biography and Career :
He studied at the Joseph Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia. In 2001 he became a professional player and since then he has played a very good tennis. Diego Ayala is his coach and he goes with Robby to all the tournaments and takes care of his coach. Until now (2007) he has won two ATP single tournaments.
The first one was conquered in July 2003 at Newport on grass. His opponent in the final was Jurgen Melzer and the score was 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1. After two years, in July 2005, it come the next title, this time at Indianapolis on hard. He had to face in the final Taylor Dent, who was the public’s favorite, with the score 4-6, 6-0 and in the thi
rd set his opponent retired.
In 2004 he participated at three of the four Grand Slam tournaments. At Roland Garros he played into the first round but was eliminated. At the Australian Open and Wimbledon he had a great time and managed to reach the fourth round.
In the next year, 2005, at the US Open he had the best performance at a Grand Slam event after he reached the semi-finals. This was the year when he played the semi-finals at the Madrid Masters, but Rafael Nadal beat him and eventually won the title there.
Tennis players like Andy Roddick, James Blake, Mardy Fish, Robert Kendrick and Bobby Reynolds are his friends and he had a short term relationship with Minnie Driver, who is an actress. He is talented and with hard training he can have important successes again.
