Rab Butler Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler (1902-1982) was a British Conservative politician, known from his initials as Rab.

Short Biography:

As minister of education 1941-1945, he was responsible for the Education Act in 1944; he was chancellor of the Exchequer 1951-1955, Lord Privy Seal 1955-1959, and foreign minister 1963-1964.

As a candidate for the premiership, he was defeated by Harold Macmillan in 1957 (under whom he was home secretary 1957-1962), and by Douglas-Home in 1963. He was master of Trinity College, Cambridge, 1965-1978.
