Owsley Stanley was born on January 19, 1935 in Kentucky. He is the first known large producer of pure LSD.
Biography and Career:
In 1956, when he was 21, Owsley Stanley enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 18 months. He was discharged in 1958. He began studying ballet and became a professional dancer. In 1963, while he was enrolled at the University of California, Berkley, he involved in the psychoactive drugs scene.
After a semester, he dropped out for a technical job as a LSD producer in a small laboratory near the campus. The police raided into the lab house on 21 February 1965. They were looking for methamphetamine but they found only LSD that was legal at that time.
After this episode from his life, Owsley Stanley moved to Los Angeles and start
ed to produce there LSD. He bought almost 500 grams of lysergic acid monohydrate, which is the base for this drug. He received it on 30 March 1965. By May 1965 he produced over 300 000 capsules each containing 270 micrograms of LSD.
At the end of 1965, Owsley Stanley became the principal LSD supplier of Ken Kensey and the Merry Prankesters and his drugs had become the new trend, because the Sandoz LSD was hard to come by.
Since 1996, Owsley Stanley is an Australian citizen and lives along with his wife in Far Northern Tropical Queensland where he is sculpting. He has four kids by four different women.
