Olimpiu Nusfelean - prose writer. Also poet. Born on 8th July 1949 in Sieu-Sfintu (Bistrita Nasaud). He is the son of Oliver and Maria Nusfelean, peasants. After graduating the Beclean secondary school, he graduated in 1973 from the Faculty of Letters of “Babes-Bolyai” University of Cluj Napoca.
During his student years he attended the “Echinox” literary circle of the same literary review, as well as the “Saeculum” literary circle in Dej - Beclean. He made his debut with poems in 1971 in “Echinox” and “Tribuna” literary reviews. Some of his poems were included in the collective book Stop Between Young Poets / Popas intre poetii tineri (Dacia, 1974). His actual debut in book form was At the Edge of Dream / La marginea visului (novel, Dacia, 1980). He contributed poems, essays, short stor
ies, and articles to the following literary reviews, among others: “Tribuna”, “Steaua”, “Echinox”, “Viata Româneasca”, “Vatra”, “Tomis”, “Familia”, “Convorbiri literare”, “Timpul”, “Poesis”, “România literara”, “Contrapunct”, and “Contemporanul - Ideea europeana”, as well as to TV and radio programmes.
After his first book, he published the volumes: The Position of Being / Pozitia fiintei (short stories, Albatros, 1982), The Stone of the Sun / Piatra soarelui (novel, Cartea Româneasca, 1987), Night Freedom / Libertate de noapte (poems, Dacia, 1995). He is present in the anthology Short Fiction of the ‘80s Generation / Generatia ‘80 in proza scurta edited by Gheorghe Craciun and Viorel Marineasa (1998). He received the prose prize of “Tribuna” literary review (1976). a prize for essay awarded by the Association of Journalists in Romania ( 1987), and a prize of the Writers’ Association in Cluj Napoca (1995). He travelled to Bulgaria, France, Poland, the Republic of Moldova. Ukraine, Russia, and the Czech Republic. At present, the author is a teacher at the House of the Bistrita department of the Ministry of Education. He is a member of the Writers’ Union in Romania and of the Association of Professional Journalists in Romania.
