Mathieu Amalric was born on October 25, 1965, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France. He began his career in films with a side role in the movie Favourites of the Moon (1984). He also acted in a number of self-made short films and some local movie ventures.
He appeared in a number of unsuccessful movies until his role in the movie, Diary of a Seducer (1996). He earned a Best Actor Award at the Acteurs à l'Écran festival for this role. After that, in 1998, he was cast in the movie Alice and Martin.
He appeared in total 17 films during the period of 2000 to 2004. His directorial debut came during this time with the movie Wimbledon Stage (2001). He was also in the cast of the award-winning film Kings & Queen and in Munich (2005). He also directed a documentary, Let Them Grow Up He
