Jose Sarney (born in 1930) was President of Brazil 1985-1989, member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (PMDB).Short Biography:
Sarney was elected vice president in 1985 and within months, on the death of President Neves, became head of state. Despite earlier involvement with the repressive military regime, he and his party won a convincing victory in the 1986 general election.
He was succeeded in 1989 by Ferdinand Color of the Party for National Reconstruction.
