Jack Welch was born on November 19, 1935 in Peabody, Massachusetts, USA. For twenty years, since 1981, he has been Chairman and CEO of General Electric.
Biography and Career :
His parents are of Irish origins. He studied at the University of Massachusetts. In 1960 he got his M.S. and Ph.D at the University of Illinois. That was also the year when he received the job as junior engineer at General Electric.
After twelve years he was becoming vice president of GE and in 1979 vice chairman. In 1981 he managed to become Chairman and CEO of General Electric and this way he was the youngest person who ever occupied that position.
His reputation was of a brutal corporate leader because he shut down factories, reduced payrolls and cut lackluster old-line units. In November 1959 h
e married Carolyn Osburn. They have four children, but after 28 years of marriage got divorced. He remarried, that time to Jane Beasley and in 2003 decided to divorce. On April 24, 2004 he married Suzy Wetlaufer.
He was chosen "Manager of the Century" by Fortune magazine in the year 1999. In September 2001 he decided it was time for him to take a break and retire. He is a very intelligent person and loved what he was doing. He became famous thanks to that and is a well known person all over the world now.
