Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) was a French novelist, author of Madame Bovary in 1857.
Short Biography:
Salammbd in 1862 earned him the Legion of Honour in 1866, and was followed by L'Education sentimentale / Sentimental Education in 1869, and La Tentation de Saint Antoine! The Temptation of St. Anthony in 1874.
Flaubert also wrote the short stories Trots contes / Three Tales in 1877.
He entered Paris literary circles 1840, but in 1846 retired to Rouen, where he remained for the rest of his life.
