George P. Shultz (born in 1920) is an American Republican politician, economics adviser to President Reagan 1980-1982, and secretary of state 1982-1989.
Short Biography:
Shultz taught as a labour economist at the University of Chicago before serving in the 1968-1974 Nixon administration, including secretary of Labor 1969-1970 and secretary of the Treasury 1972-1974.
As State Department secretary, he was in charge of the formulation of US foreign policy. He was pragmatic and moderate, against the opposition of Defence Secretary Caspar Weinberger.
