Eva Gaëlle Green was born in Paris on 5 July 1980, to parents Marlène Jobert, a French actress, and Swedish dentist Walter Green. She grew up in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and her mother is of Algerian French settlers (Pied-Noir) descent. Eva Green was born two minutes before her twin sister Joy. Eva Green has described her family as "bourgeois" and has said that her sister nothing like her. Eva Green is a natural dark blonde but she dyed her hair black aged 15. French-Swedish actress Marika Greenalso is her relative, she is her aunt.
Director Bernardo Bertolucci discovered Eva Green in 2002, and said she was "so beautiful, it's indecent". She accepted his invitation to star in "The Dreamers" in 2003, despite her parents' initial objections because of Maria Schneider's accounts of
being traumatized while filming Bertolucci's "Last Tango in Paris".
Eva Green performed extensive nude scenes although she was embarrassed when her family saw the film she said felt natural on set. Her performance was so well received, with some comparing her to actress Liv Tyler.
In addition to her acting career, Eva Green has modeled for numerous famous brands like Breil, Emporio Armani, Lancôme, Heineken, and Christian Dior SA's "Midnight Poison" perfume, in an advert directed by Wong Kar-wai. She like her mother supports the Unicef.
She has also expressed interest in returning to the stage, and has no plans to go to work in Hollywood because, "The problem with Hollywood is that the studios are super powerful, much more powerful than the directors. My ambition at this moment is just to find a good script that I like." She added she would probably get just femme fatale roles there.
