Chester A. Arthur was a good-looking and tall man. Sometimes Arthur told to people that he was born in 1830 to make himself a younger man. His father name was William Arthur, who was born at Cullybackey village of Northern Ireland. He completed his graduation in 1848 from Union College of Barbourville. In civil war he worked as Quartermaster General of the State of New York.

The International Meridian Conference was held in Washington D.C in 1884 at the order of President Arthur, because of this conference Greenwich Meridian and international standardized time was established. These both are using by the world nowadays.
He ordained Samuel Blatchford in 1882 and Horace Gray in 1882 to the Supreme Court. Arthur prescribed 4 judges to United States circuit courts and 13 also to the district courts of USA.
Arthur got married on October 25 in 1859 with the daughter of Elizabeth Hansbrough and Captain William Lewis Herndon USN, her name was Ellen "Nell" Lewis Herndon. She was best-loved niece of Matthew Fontaine Maury who was commander in USN of the United States Naval Observatory. Her father had also jobbed there. This nice personality died on November 18 in 1886.
