Catalina Castano was born on July 7, 1979 in Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia. She is a tennis player.
Biography and career :
In 1998 she became a professional tennis player and earned approximately 700,000 dollars just from tennis until now (2007). She won six ITF single titles until now but she didnt succeed any WTA single or doubles tournaments.
In 2005 at Budapest she played a WTA final for the first time in her career. It was at the tournament in Budapest and she played against Anna Smashnova. The match ended with the score 2-6 2-6.
Her best performances at the Grand Slam tournaments are: second round at the US Open in 2005, first round at Wimbledon in 2001 and between 2004 and 2007, second round at the French Open in 2001 and between 2005 and 2007 and second round at
the Australian Open in 2006.
In 1999 she won her first ITF title at Santiago and the next year she got another two at Midlothian and Cali. In 2001 she played the quarter-finals of the tournament in Bogota, but she was eliminated and couldn't reach the semi-finals.
She won three ITF titles at the tournaments in Gorizia, Orbetello and Campobasso. In October 2005 she was one of the semi-finalists of the Seoul tournament but Nicole Vaidisova eliminated her. At Istanbul in January 2007 and at Rome she played in the quarter-finals, but lost every time.
