Bibi Osterwald was an actress in theater, television and films.Her full name was Margaret Virginia Osterwald. She was born February 3, 1918, in New Brunswick, New Jersey; Bibi was daughter of Rudolf August (an hotel owner) and Dagmar (Kvastad) Osterwald. She married Edward Justin Arndt (a musician) on January 14, 1951

Bibi appeared in Broadway shows that included the original production of ''Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,'' ''Bus Stop'' ''Look Homeward, Angel'' and ''The Golden Apple,'' for which she received an Outer Circle Critics Award in 1953. Bibi played the part of title character in Hello Dolly 122 times, filling in for Ginger Rogers, Betty Grable, Phyllis Diller, Martha Raye, Ethel Merman and others.

Bibi 's television work dated back to the 1940's, and included ''Front Row Cente r,'' ''The Imogene Coca Show,'' ''Naked City'' and ''As the World Turns.'' During the 1970's and 80's she made frequent guest appearances as a genial, grandmotherly character on shows like ''The Love Boat,'' ''Three's Company,'' ''St. Elsewhere'' and ''Newhart.''
Bibi died on Jan. 2,2002 in Burbank, Calif.

Bibi is famous for her role of Maggie Jones in the national company of ''42nd Street'. 'Her other popular film credits include ''Parrish,'' ''A Fine Madness'' and ''As Good as It Gets.''
She is also known for her roles in film As Good as It Gets (1997) as the Neighbor Woman, film The Paper Brigade (1997) as widow Mrs. Hansen and film The Glimmer Man (1996) as Woman in Ovington Arms.
