Andrea Bocelli was born on 22nd September 1958 in Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy. He is an Italian pop tenor and crossover artist.
Biography and Career:
Andrea Bocelli was born and brought up in Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy in a family farm. He is the son of Alessandro and Edi Bocelli. His native place is about 40 km south of Pisa. His parents sold the farm machinery and made wine in a small village of village of La Sterza, a frazione of Lajatico. His father died in 2000.
When he was born he had an eye sight problem which was diagnosed as glaucoma after visiting several doctors. When he was 12 year old he lost his eye sight completely because of an accident during the European football game in 1970. When he was a young boy he loved music. When he was 6 years old he started learning
the piano and later he learnt the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, harp, guitar and drums.
During his childhood he also spent time in singing. He won his first music competition at the Margherita d'Oro in Viareggio with O sole mio when he was 14 years old. In 1980 after he completed his secondary school he studied law at the University of Pisa. After he completed his law he worked as a lawyer in the court. He used to play the piano at the evening bars to earn money.
Italian rock star Zucchero had held auditions for tenors to make a demo tape with him in 1992 for the song Miserere from his album and send it to Italian tenor Pavarotti. He made his debut in September as Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa. He was named as one of People's Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1998.
